Technical Tours

Three technical tours are available to conference attendees. The tours will be held on Thursday September 15, 2016. Attendees who are interested must specifically register. If you register for the CNL Tour, you cannot register for the other tours. The registration fee is to cover the cost of transportation in each case.

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Tour ($50) 

Organizational Details:

Maximum 40 participants. All registrants much complete an online form at the time of registering for the tour.

Tour Details:

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories – Chalk River will open its doors to registrants to tour a selection of the many unique facilities and laboratories across its campus.  Given the size of this group, participants will not have the opportunity to select particular areas of interest; however, the day will cover facilities related to all three of CNL’s primary mission areas (decommissioning and waste management, nuclear operations, and nuclear science & technology). Lunch will be provided courtesy of CNL.  The bus will depart the conference hotel at 8:00 and return to the hotel approximately 18:00.  Government-issued photo ID and closed toed shoes are required for this tour (no exceptions). Note: International registrants must bring their passports for the tour. Nordion Laboratories Tour ($25)

Organizational Details:

Maximum 30 participants.

Tour Details:

Nordion Inc. of Ottawa is inviting participants to visit their world-class Medical Isotope and Co-60 production facilities in Kanata, to gain an understanding of how these nuclear technologies contribute to the health and well-being of people around the world through prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.   A bus will depart the conference hotel at 8:45 and return to the hotel at approximately 12:30.  Nordion will provide lunch on site. Note: Photo ID and closed toed shoes are required for this tour (no exceptions). NRC Laboratories Tour ($25)

Organizational Details:

Maximum 30 participants.

Tour Details:

Canada’s National Research Council is inviting participants to visit a few of their Ottawa laboratories.  Bus will depart the conference hotel at 13:00 and return to the hotel at approximately 16:00.  The tour will include the neutron dosimetry lab, Compton Imager, demonstrating the capability to identify and localize radiation sources, the dosimetry laboratory (where world class medical physics research and calibrations are undertaken for customers throughout Canada and the rest of the world), and Canada’s Watt Balance (currently the world’s most accurate balance and key to the coming redefinition of the Système international d'unités (SI) (International System of Units). Note: Photo ID and closed toed shoes are required for this tour (no exceptions).
